A press conference on 'How the Police are Protecting the Murderers of Pehlu Khan', was organised on 26th October, by various concerned activists. They brought out an independent investigative report. Many speakers addressed the meeting. Here is a small compilation of some of them addressing the gathering.

Teesta Setalvad announced the decision to collectively form a committee to fight lynching cases related to cow terrorism. The Home Ministry is deceiving the Parliament in cow terrorism cases by giving false statements, she said.

Senior Advocate Indira Jaising said that Pehlu Khan's family is not demanding compensation for the loss of their family member. They want justice. RSS has given manuals with guidelines to their members regarding how to kill a case by filing counter-complaints, counter-FIRs and creating alibis.

Prashant Bhushan, Senior Advocate, said that armies of thugs named gau rakshaks have been formed and are operating with the support of the government. Those whose name Pehlu Khan had named in his dying declaration are not arrested for five months.

Colin Gonsalves, Senior Advocate, said that in many cases where an FIR is filed, there is a counter-FIR by the accused. The counter-FIR is designed to prevent  you from proceeding with your case and to settle. "So you'll find that if we don't intervene, in a year's time these cases will be withdrawn from the courts," he said.

"We have carefully documented the statements made by political personalities, religious personalities, the Haryana Chief Minister and sadhvis on national television where they openly say that if you eat beef, you should be killed... The question is not who pulled the trigger. The person who pull the trigger is always some contract killer. The question is, who is the political brain behind these killings."

Irshad, son of Pehlu Khan, said that he was with his father when the attack on Pehlu Khan occurred. The police is making false claims. The police is now saying that they got indication about the incident three hours after Irshad's statement was taken.
