NASA recently drew attention to the concerning state of Wular and Dal lakes in Kashmir through satellite imagery, revealing a distressing trend of decline in recent years. The lakes, once thriving reservoirs, now face significant challenges that endanger their sustainability and the communities dependent on them. Wular Lake, located in Bandipora, is presently the largest freshwater lake in India and serves as a crucial water source for drinking and irrigation in Northern India. Similarly, Dal Lake in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, is a picturesque urban lake and the second largest in the region. It attracts numerous tourists and locals but has also experienced a decline in recent years.
