In Twitter’s Transparency Report, India at number 6 in Making Information Requests

United States made the Highest Number of Information Requests, while India, with 261 requests, stood at Number 6.

In the first six months of this year, Twitter received a total of 6,448 information requests from 55 countries. Out of these, Twitter provided some information in 60% of the cases, that is, about 3,868 number of requests. India made the sixth highest information requests, to which Twitter provided information in 21% of the cases. So, out of 261 requests made by the Indian government, Twitter replied with some information in about 55 cases

The United States made the highest number of requests. A total of 2,111 information requests were made by the US government, out of which Twitter provided some information in 77% or about 1,625 cases.

The report published by Twitter also gives the number of content removal requests made in different countries. Removal requests include worldwide legal requests from governments as well as other authorised reporters to remove or withhold content. A total of 6,086 requests were made for the removal of content all over the world, out of which 752 were court orders. Turkey made the highest number of content removal requests amongst all the countries. Out of the 752 court orders issued worldwide, 715 came from Turkey alone.

India comes at number six again in removal requests. India issued two court orders and made a total of 104 removal requests overall. No action was taken by Twitter, however, in the content removal requests made by India.

Though Russia made very few information requests, it made the second highest number of content removal requests, after Turkey. All of these requests in Russia came from government agencies, police, etc, and not courts.

Overall, Twitter took action in 20% of the total requests made and withheld some content. A total of 297 accounts and 1,464 tweets were withheld by Twitter in the first six months of this year.
