Forum of IT Professionals (ForIT) held a huge rally - “Walk For Justice” - today in Hyderabad against the illegal retrenchments going on in the IT industry. The rally started from Lemon Tree Hitech City, proceeded towards Ananth tech park and culminated near Raheja Mindspace. During the course of the rally, there were public gatherings – addressing more than 600 people. There was an enthusiastic response from all, raising slogans and joining the walk for justice. Around 4,500 pamphlets were distributed with an aim to create awareness regarding the labour laws that protect IT employees.

The rally was energetic with sloganeering – from “We want justice”, “Down down corporate greed” to “Give back my job, give back my life”. While addressing the public gatherings, Kiran Chandra, founder member of For IT, pointed out that it is illegal to retrench employees under the guise of under-performers. He mentioned that the employees are protected under the law of the land and no one can be fired without due process.

The rally, which passed through the heart of Hitech city, witnessed participation from many different IT companies. The main demands raised were that the retrenchments be stopped and those who were illegally retrenched be given back their jobs.

For IT has been actively working on the issue of retrenchment and has filed hundreds of petitions with the Labour Commissioner and the Deputy Development Commissioner, SEZ.
