Farewell to Activist and Poet Maya Angelou
In the following video, close friend Howard Dodson Jr. talks about the life and poetry of Maya Angelou, the renowned civil rights activist and poet. Author of the landmark book, I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings and the well-known poem, Still I Rise, Maya Angelou passed away on May 28th 2014. She was 86. In her writings, she explored the concepts of personal identity and resilience through the varied lens of race, gender, family, community and the collective past.
