Bezwada Wilson while speaking at Bhopal Janutsav stressed on the fact that though manual scavenging has been deemed as an illegal practice by the government, it is still widely prevalent in India. Within eight months, 122 people have died in septic tanks and sewer lines. Science and the technology have yet not benefited this section of the society that is forced to go down the drains and clean the sewage. He also stressed the importance of mechanising the process of cleaning, which will only be possible when science and technology are made easily accessible to the people.
