March 8th- Women March to Demand What They’re Owed

Let’s hope that they are not labeled ‘Anti national’ for asking for these rights.

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, hundreds of women marched on the streets continuing the revolutionary tradition of demanding equal rights. Women have fought relentlessly to acquire their rights. On this International Women’s Day, they raised certain demands.

They demanded the 33% women reservation bill to be passed in parliament and assemblies immediately. Due to demonetisation, many people, especially women have lost their jobs and livelihood. Another demand was for the government to provide jobs for all, without delay.

Slogans were raised against the environment of fear and violence spreading across the country.

The women raised their voices in solidarity with the larger struggles. The demands were not specific to women only.Slogans were raised against Manuwad, Jatiwad, Capitalism and neo liberal policies.

We celebrate, the international women’s day, remembering the history of women’s movements across the world. Slogans were also raised for ‘azadi’. Azadi from the oppressive institutions and establishments. Let’s hope that they are not labeled ‘Anti national’ for asking for these rights.
